An Oscar is the award every person in Hollywood dreams of. Winning one can make your career explode and get many new opportunities, and it also tells the rest of the world that you’re the very best at your job in that movie year.
Unfortunately, many great artists have been very unfortunate at the Oscars. Some took many nominations to earn the award, like cinematographer Roger Deakins, who won on his 14th try, or Martin Scorsese, who had to wait until his ninth nomination to take his home (even though it may have been for the wrong film). Even worse, some talented and famous artists like Alfred Hitchcock or Stanley Kubrick died without getting to take the gold statue home. Many more are still waiting to hear their names called and win the movie’s highest honor, especially the people with the most Oscar nominations who’ve never won it.
